On April 4, there is a Dark Souls III spicy chicken wing eating challenge of epic proportions being held at a UK restaurant named MEATliquor. According to TechTimes, the challenge is being hosted by Bandai Namco U.K., Sony Computer Entertainment U.K. and MEATliquor.
The idea is simple enough. Of course any Dark Souls fan is a glutton for pain, punishment, frustration, and the overwhelming odds of defeat. Normally, players indulge their twisted fantasies in the virtual world. However, this Dark Souls III spicy chicken wing eating contest is the perfect way for Dark Souls fans to satisfy their lust for torture in the physical world.
It’s serious. Bandai Namco explains that:
The chef preparing the wings for hardy challengers is required to wear protective gloves, a mask and goggles to protect from the intensity of heat, as the wings pack a punch.
Although full of flavour, the heat is so intense that participants are required to sign a waiver before competing in the contest and must too wear protective gloves throughout the challenge.
What doesn’t make sense is that this challenge is only available in the U.K. Maybe it’s just me, but when I think of America a few images float into my mind. After apple pie, bald eagles, and those famous stars and stripes, there’s football and chicken wings.
It’s been over a week since the news of this Dark Souls III spicy chicken wing challenge and surprisingly, as far as we know, no American restaurant chains have risen to the occasion to partner up with the the US branches of Bandai Namco and Sony to bring this challenge to the western hemisphere.
There’s a few chains that immediately come to mind: Buffalo Wild Wings, T.G.I. Friday’s, Ruby Tuesdays, Applebee’s, Chili’s, The Cheesecake Factory. But those are a small drop of hot sauce in a vast ocean of restaurants that serve spicy chicken wings and could potentially team up with Bandai Namco and Sony to offer the Dark Souls III spicy chicken wing challenge in the United States.
Lets not forget. There’s more than pride and pain at stake here. In the UK Dark Souls III spicy chicken wing challenge, “The winner with the fastest time from each restaurant will receive a PlayStation®4 with the Dark Souls Collector’s Edition, while the Soul survivor with the fastest time in the country will also receive a very limited Prestige Edition, which includes a colossal 40cm Lord of Cinder Figurine.”
If you or anyone you know are/is in a position to make this nightmare a reality for U.S. citizens, please do everything within your power to deliver this opportunity to the fans. What other restaurants do you think would be good choices for an American version of the Dark Souls III spicy chicken wing challenge? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
