Destiny: TTK – Rasputin the Warmind’s Hidden Intentions Revealed and Explained

If you’re a Destiny player, whether you just recently joined along in The Taken King expansion or if you’ve been a fan from the beginning, there’s a good chance that you have heard the name Rasputin. As we’re told several times throughout the game’s storyline, Rasputin is what’s known in Destiny as a Warmind.

If you don’t totally understand what a Warmind is, or what it means that Rasputin is one, then you’re not alone. It’s complicated. To make things easier, let’s start with a timeline of events.

As far as we know, the Earth in Destiny’s universe started out similarly to that of the Earth that we live on in real life. Then, coinciding with the arrival of the Traveler, Earth entered what is known in the Destiny universe as the Golden Age, a time in which life, technology, peace, and prosperity flourished throughout human civilization.

From the grimoire card for the Golden Age, we know that:

“The Traveler kindled the Golden Age. But we built it. We remember this with pride, even after so much else has been lost. We settled our solar system and filled it with our work.

Today, Cryptarchs and scholars work to distill the legends of the Golden Age into truth. We know that humans lived longer, flew further, and knew more. We know that countless ancient diseases and hatreds were extinguished forever. Human aspiration gives birth to vast engineering projects, sweeping social movements, and even new forms of life.”

During the Golden Age, humanity’s technological advancements led to the development of highly-complex artificial intelligences known as Warminds. It seems that these AIs were forms of life created to assist humans by exceeding their limitations, and yet still serve them as masters. Perhaps the most famous of these Warminds is Rasputin.
