We recently noticed that a few hours ago, Mick Joest from Geek Tyrant had stumbled across precious internet treasure. As the headline suggests, Samurai Champloo, one of the most popular anime series of all time, is now streaming free on Funimation’s Youtube page.
On the site, fans have access to all 26 episodes of the series without commercials or interruptions streaming at a maximum resolution of 480p. While 480p isn’t the best picture quality, it’s hard to argue with free anime. The biggest drawback for some anime fans might be that the English subbed version of the show is available but the English dubbed version is not.
If you’re a hardcore anime fan, there’s a good chance you’re used to watching a decent amount of your shows in Japanese anyway, either for reasons of availability or authenticity. However, if you absolutely need to watch Samurai Champloo in English and this subbed Youtube release is irrelevant news to you then you could always create a membership on Funimation’s website.
While this option still allows you to watch the show for free, you will have to put up with watching a few short ads per episode. So either broaden your horizons and explore the show in Japanese or deepen your patience and sit through the commercials on the English dubbed version. You can choose to do whichever makes you happy.
We’re just here to give you a heads up on an opportunity that you otherwise may not have come across. If you’ve never seen, or even worse never heard of, Samurai Champloo, we highly recommend that you give it a watch. Its style is an innovative mix between new school and old school that comes together in the most delightful way.
